4An in depth coverage of both theory and application.

A detailed study resource for the serious diesel mechanic. An important resource for those studying for advanced certification or those who make their living working on engines and in need of more detailed technical info. Book has detailed drawings and explanations. Not recreational reading. Tough subject explained well, with tips and guidance on all aspects of diesel engines.

4VERY technical book, everything you ever wanted to know about diesels.

This book goes into extreme detail about every subsystem that Bosch produces for diesel engines, and how diesel engines work. Great illustrations, too.

The only problem is that the book is not always the easiest read, and assumes that you have somewhat of an engineering background before reading the book. However, it will still provide useful information.

This is a quality book. It covers all aspects of diesel engine management that you need to be able to understand the function and design of the modern diesel engine. The discussion is strict technical but still easy to read which I appreciate as an engineer.
Exellent illustrations.

This is an older version of the book and is missing mainly the newest information on the diesel particulate filters. I brought this book with me to prep for the ASE test and passed it easily. This book provides valuable information and was key in me passing. I would recommend buying the newest version if you can afford it though.

Sean Bennett is a former program coordinator for the Truck and Diesel Department at Centennial College, as well as a former corporate trainer for Mack Trucks. During his 20-year tenure at the college, he authored new curricula, helped overhaul existing course offerings, and chaired a wide range of curriculum development committees for the Province of Ontario. Mr. Bennett has written more than 30 books dealing with diesel, truck, heavy equipment, and automotive technology, and currently devotes his career to technical writing and speaking engagements. He is an active member of the American Trucking Association's Technology and Maintenance Council, the Association of Diesel Specialists, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the North American Council of Automotive Teachers. He is widely regarded as the foremost author in medium/heavy duty truck technology.

4Computerized Management

This book has a good format and is based on the new technology that is on the diesel engines of today. I am a Technical College Diesel Instructor and i think this is the best book that is in print at this time. It covers all the engine families including the big three.

5Benchmark training pub for diesel techs

Sean Bennett is arguably one of the most knowledgeable equipment technical author/educators in North America. This edition is his best; buy it, keep it in your tool box/shelf, and be happy with the money well spent. He's one of the rare guys that writes from a mechanics perspective; savvy with the most advanced technology but knows the legacy platforms as well. He knows what he's talking about.

The book is great, its required for my class.
The book covers a wide range of topics including several engine fuel systems.
my only complaint is if it covered the ECM of various OEMs alot more.
Otherwise its a great book, and well worth the investment.

3A limited diesel workshop manual.

MBZ E Class Diesel Workhsop Manual

This manual is mostly for the European models. E.g .it is not showing the US model 300TD . Also - it is not very detailed (no replacing engine mounts, not showing primary fuel filter,etc.). Possibly because it is the "Owners' Edition".

3Better than nothing, but missing info

I've had several VW's starting in 1987 and a Bentley manual for all of them. This latest edition seems to have sacrificed detail for sake of being able to cover a myriad of engine types/models. Notably missing is any information on the power window mechanism, not even a diagram. Also vague is information about the removal/installation of distributor cap and rotor. There is a lot of "installation is the reverse of removal" (This makes sense in a purely logical world, but not in the real world). Finally, I notice a total lack of the wonderful symptom/solution troubleshooting tables that have appeared in previous versions. It's better than nothing, but doesn't seem up to the regular standards of detail!

4Vortexers... It's a must-have!

This is a must have for any VW owner that's planning on doing some sort of modification... Or simply if they just want to do self maintenance (VW owners all know how expensive scheduled maintenance can be).
I only give this 4 stars though because certain European parts that exist on North American models are ignored (ie: the rear fog light - the socket exists, is shown in an illustration of the tail light assembly, but is not labelled)...

4A must have for the home mechanic

I bought this manual along with a video to learn how this "mystery device" works, and to rebuild my own transmission. It shows in detail step by step photos of complete teardown and assembly for the Ford C3, C4, C5, C6, and AOD transmissions. It also lists all necessary tools required to perform the overhaul as well as manufacturers who make them. I've bought numerous Haynes manuals in the past and this one is as supurbly informative as the rest. Buy it, do it yourself, and save hundreds of $$$.

4De-mystify working on your Ford Tranny

Using this manual, I was able to easily disassembly and rebuild my C6 transmission using basic tools with limited need for "specialty" tools. The book explains in detail what to do for each transmission, what special tools you'll need and what special tools you WON'T need. I bought the overhaul kit from a local shop, this book and a few simple tools I needed an excuse to buy and I was off. The book has good info on diagnosing problems as well as very detailed step by step instructions with pictures. A very useful tool for the home mechanic.

4Pretty Good Shop Manual

I've been a car guy for a lot of years and recently decided to attempt to rebuild my first automatic transmission. I bought this shop manual to help me with the process. The manual is very easy to follow with step by step pictures showing disassembly and reassembly. I also bought a CD showing the same process on video. Rebuilding an automatic transmission isn't easy and definitely not for the inexperienced. If you want to give it a try, I recommend this manual and would buy it again.

3The book is hard to follow

The book has some very good information and some of the infomation does pertain to the field, but when you have to read the book,I find the book vague in the sense of excessive wordiness and when the book refers to a picture you have to flip through 20 pages to examine what he is saying and when you go back to reading where you left off you cannot follow what point he is trying to make.

I wish they would leave all the crap out of these manuals. I swear they just fluff them up with the same garbage no matter what manual it is. Furthermore the index is about as useful as tits on a bull. When you need a manual you have a problem and you are looking for answers. A good index would serve that purpose greatly. Unfortunately the authors dropped the ball. I am glad I purchased it used so I am not supporting the hucksters.

This covers only two truck models for 4 years so it has more information in it than some other version. Haynes and Chilton have merged but keep separate covers on them - no longer can you buy both and expect one to add more info to the other. The are good to give you good coverage of how to fix you truck.

Again, I'm not much with words, but I have read through this exciting book from cover to cover several times and have enjoyed every chapter. I plan to put each chapter to work, just as soon as this %$#@##@@@/! SNOW goes away and the sun comes out for the Summer.

The Chilton Manual - Repair for 1967 - 1986 is very helpful in repairing these older Chevy/GMC vehicles.
My vehicle is an Airstream 1984 motor home and it has been diffecult to find good Chevy P30 Chassis information.
This manual provides some of the needed info for engine systems. However it does not have steering system info for class A motorhomes.

There are many fuel system and electrical system resources. Overall it was a good purchase.

3Great content, would be a 5 if had more photos

Chilton is the automotive repair bible for sure. I love the info, the details and the practical step-by-step. For those not familiar with engines (like me) it's wonderful, and would be even better with more photos. I've owned Chilton manuals for all my vehicles since I first started driving in 1972. They helped ease me into working on my own vehicles.

Great book for newbies, women, men and teens. Easy to read and very good for reference. Highly recommend it.

My husband and I purchased a 1986 Chevy Bounder Motorhome which had problems that we weren't aware of at time of purchase. This repair guide was a life saver. Has all the intricate instructions and diagrams to work on your own vehicle.
