5Sorry you didn't like the book
By B. Smothers
Sorry you didn't like the book. Here is a sample below of my writing style:

"It is ok to sand/media blast the turbine housing, but DO NOT use a sandblaster on a
compressor housing or bearing housing. It is acceptable to media blast the turbine
wheel but only if the piston portion of the wheel/shaft and the shaft are protected:
the piston portion and the shaft are bearing surfaces and MUST NOT come into
contact with sandblasting material. Irregular, dull, or pitted bearing surfaces from
media blasting will not retain oil properly.
If the bearing housing has caked on oil/coked oil, it may be best to replace the
bearing housing: coked oil may be impossible to remove from the bearing housing’s
oil passages and journal surfaces.
The problem with cleaning bearing housings is that they flash rust because they are
cast iron. It is acceptable to put a bearing housing into a mechanical cleaner ONLY if
that cleaner removes all chemical residue and only if the bearing housing is
IMMEDIATELY lubricated: the journal surfaces (bore) of the bearing housing may
flash rust in a minute or less, so clean the part, immediately dry it with compressed
air, and immediately apply a liberal amount of oil to the bearing housing surfaces.
The trickiest part to clean on the bearing housing is the piston ring groove on the
turbine side"

As far as specs go, there are some main specs of a turbo:
1)Turbine shaft runout (spec contained in book)
2)Turbine shaft wear (spec contained in book)
3)Bearing Housing Bore (journal) (spec contained in book)
4)Compressor wheel wear (spec contained in book)
5)Turbine wheel wear (spec contained in book)
6)Balance tolerances (spec contained in book)

1Save your time and money the book is useless!
By Top reviewer
This book does not say much, there are no specs so how could you rebuild it and trust it to be operational? The authors language skills are poor which can make the book difficult to read and its full of disclaimers on why you shouldn't rebuild it yourself! Save your money!
